Write 1,000 words each day
Starting today, September 13th I’m writing 1,000 words each day for the rest of the month of September.
The word count goal is something that many starting writers set for themselves. I have done so myself in the past with Nanowrimo but I wanted a number that was lower and friendlier, if I can call it that, than the numbers I have used before.
500 words a day is a good goal but I know I can do 1,000 each day without stressing and I think that if I want to finish a story in the near future I better get to work.
What I expect to accomplish from this is to develop the habit of writing every single day. Also I want to make me understand that no matter the medium (paper, keyboard, smart phone) I can and have to accomplish my word count for the day.
One little detail: The#4 on this list won’t count as part of the daily 1,000 words goal.
Work on any idea I want to work on
The reason behind this particular goal is that I’ve tried in the past to stay focus on just one manuscript. I didn’t work before so now I’m implementing something new: write what you feel lie writing as long as you are writing some story.
In this case what I want to accomplish is to get rid of the feeling that I’m boxed into one single story from beginning to end. It has happened before and it’s not a happy feeling, also doesn’t help with me not getting stuck because of it.
When it comes to this goal it becomes tricky because I could just start new projects every other day, right? So where would it be the “complete a manuscript” goal that every writer has? That’s why I have the next goal in line.
Complete 25,000 words on one manuscript
Now, this is more like it, right?
Last month I try to bite more that I could chew… or so I learned. Thanks to that experience, now I’m trying to pace myself a little more besides, it’s not the time that matters, what matters is that I finish a manuscript this year.
I could pick the book I outline last month or I could pick another but I have to make sure I’m 25,000 words into a manuscript by the end of September. If my calculations are correct, this could mean the manuscript would be half done or even completely done. It all depends on how long the story turned out to be.
Write more blog posts every week
For a while now I have been posting on Mondays my book reviews. I want to give you new content and different things to read here, hence this goals.
If I can keep up with one blog post about writing every Wednesday, that would be amazing, in addition to my regular Monday Reviews that I love to do.
I hope the new content give you new things to learn and look forward when you come to my site. Oh, by the way, I’m working on making a website and I will be talking about that later on in another blog post.
