SYNOPSIS FROM GOODREADS

Todd is too flakey. Richard is too stubborn. Together, they’re perfect. A May-December couple get a second chance at love.

Retired soldier Richard Davis wants a stable life in a quiet town with a forever man. Becoming the sheriff of Hope, Arizona, accomplishes two of his three goals, but instead of finding a serious partner, he falls for too-young-to-be-committed and too-flakey-to-be-serious Todd Smitty. Richard won’t find the right man if he’s obsessed with the wrong one, so he walks away from Todd.

It’s lust at first sight when Todd meets his sister’s army friend. He sets his sights on the worldly, strong, stable older man, and the more time he spends with Richard, the harder he falls. But after three years together, Richard cuts off all contact with no explanation.

When a mutual obligation requires Todd to move into Richard’s house, he’s thrilled at the opportunity to earn a second chance. Ignoring Todd from across town was hard enough. Can Richard resist temptation under his own roof?

MY REVIEW

When I found out this baby was on Amazon, I forgot all about other books and run to get it. I love Cardeno C stories. This is no exception. Book #3 in the Hope Series, it can be read as a stand alone because even though you get to see characters from previous books, they don’t affect the story line at all.

Todd Smitty is in his 20’s, lives with his parents and works at their grocery store. He was a flirt and had a very innocent mind, for a young man. Not in the sex department though, in that part of his life Todd was jumping from guy to guy.

Sheriff Richard Davis is in his 40’s, wants to settle down with a man who will be his and only his. He knew, the minute he meet Todd, that the young man was not that man for him, but he fell for him anyway.

They were in a relationship for 3 years and Richard cut all communications without explaining things to Todd. The young guy was pinning over Richard but didn’t understand what cause the separation.

This book deals with what happen when the couple is forced to live together for three months. They have to talk, interact, get along and do things together.

They realize, slowly, that things are not the way they thought. There is also very sweet and heartfelt conversation between the two of them.

My favorite chat between them is the one Richard told Todd about his fears. The way Richard was raised, the fact that he was a cop and had to hide his sexuality, the things he saw during his years of service, all contribute to his fear. Todd had strong points and made him see things differently.

Forgot to mention before that I listened to the audio version of this book. Ezekiel Robison, the narrator, was outstanding. He delivered all the feels and there was no doubt about who was who when he was talking.

I would recommend this book to anyone that loves the trope but doesn’t expect an overly complicated plot between the main characters. This is a short novel but it was beautiful to read/listened-to. Thanks to Cardeno C for another great story.

AUTHOR

Cardeno C. – CC to friends – is a hopeless romantic who wants to add a lot of happiness and a few “awwws” into a reader’s day. Writing is a nice break from real life as a corporate type and volunteer work with gay rights organizations. Cardeno’s stories range from sweet to intense, contemporary to paranormal, long to short, but they always include strong relationships and walks into the happily-ever-after sunset.

Cardeno’s Home, Family, and Mates series have received awards from Love Romances and More Golden Roses, Rainbow Awards, the Goodreads M/Romance Group, and various reviewers. But even more special to CC are heartfelt reactions from readers, like, “You bring joy and love and make it part of the every day.”
